WATER SAVING AND RECYLCING TIPS
Added: March 2007

IT'S EASY, EVERYONE CAN DO IT

Saving water and keeping a healthy garden is something that everyone in your household or at your business location can contribute to. We've come up with some great tips to help you keep your gardens alive by using water more wisely.

CATCH EVERY DROP - RECYCLING

Let's face it, plants need water. In these dry times, where public water is in high demand but low supply, it makes sense to recycle as much water as you can. The benefits are many, the more disciplined you are at it, the greater the water you'll have. There are NO restrictions on your use of recycled or trapped rain water. Use it when ever you desire. There are no additional cost (unless you need buckets/containers). Rain water is free, and you've already paid for public water the first time you used it. There's no extra charge to use it again. Since you can not use public water, this is the only water most of us can water our lawns with.

Follow these few tips to help you stock grey and rain water.

  • Wash up in a bucket, and reatin the water for your gardens
  • Place a bucket in the shower with you to catch some of the water that would otherwise just wash down the drain
  • When it does rain, place any buckets / bins (without lids) outside to trap rain water for later use
  • Install a tank to store rain water from your guttering

KEEPING YOUR GARDENS ALIVE

Water is an essential ingredient in the health and growth of your plants & lawns. Retaining water and reducing loss and waste are the basis for keeping your garden alive.

Follow these few tips to help keep your gardens alive.

  • Use a thick layer of mulch to reduce evaporation
  • Mix water crystals in to the soil to increase water retention
  • Water at night when its cooler, allowing water more time to soak and penetrate
  • Use grey water and rain water for watering outside restricted times
  • Remove weeds regularly as they compete against plants for the water
